All Types of Nose Piercings You Should Know in 2023

When mentioned about nose piercing, while septum and nostril piercings are the first things that come to mind, there are many other options. Working from top to bottom, these include the third eye, the bridge of the nose, the upper nostril, the nasal tongue, the Austin beam, the rhinoceros, and the septril. What you choose depends on your style and personal preference. Some of them are more complicated than others, so do your research when choosing an artist. You want someone who is experienced but also works in a clean and hygienic environment.

Nostril Piercing

Nostril piercing is second in popularity only to piercings of the ear, placed on the side of the nose, usually seated in a inche called the supra-alar crease. Which is popular for most piercing fans, almost the first nose piercing type when you want to try the nose piercings. It has the high nostril piercing and standard nostril piercing, which decided by the nose anatomy and your tastes.

The nostril piercing jewelry usually are nose stud (screw/I/L), bead circular barbell, seamless hoops, segment hoop rings.

Septum Piercing

A septum piercing is a piercing through the nasal septum, i.e. a bite between the nostrils. The needle goes through the thin part of the flesh to the front of the nose and then the jewelry is placed, usually a ring, horseshoe, or, less commonly, a barbell. Many refer to a round nose piercing when wearing a hoop-shaped piece of jewelry, so you may have heard of that too.

Septum piercings look very similar to most piercings, and there can be some variation in the method. Usually, however, your piercer will clean the area to be pierced before using a small clamp to hold the septum in place. He or she then inserts a cannula (a hollow needle attached to a tube) through your nose before placing the jewelry through the new hole. After the jewelry usually a horseshoe-shaped bar is attached, the piercing is complete.

The septum piercing rings conclude horseshoe rings, bead circular barbell, and seamless hoops.

Nasallang Piercing

Another more intense option is Nasallang. This nose piercing uses a single long bar to pierce both nostrils and the septum. The nose is clamped and the needle is pushed through all three layers. at the same time, followed by the jewels. As such, this is another one that's not for the faint of heart. The result looks similar to having two individual thumbtacks in each nostril. Your nose goes through the thickest layer as it sits higher on the bridge of your nose.

The nasallang piercing jewelrys are often straight barbells, made of titanium or stainless steels.

Septril Piercing

Septril piercing is one of the most complex and complicated nose piercings. They're not that common, but they look amazing when done right on the right type of nose. The procedure involves using the fistula or cured meat tunnel from a piercing into the already stretched septum. A needle is then inserted through the previous piercing from the bottom center of the septum and the jewelry, often a curved barbell is inserted. It's a piercing that takes time, patience, and skill, but it can look subtle and beautiful.

Rhino Piercing

The rhino piercing looks like a rhino’s nose. The piercing is done vertically, starting from the center of the nose tip and resembling a septril piercing.

Rhino piercing, this is another vertical piercing. It runs from the bottom center of the septum to above the tip of the nose. The name comes from the resemblance to a rhinoceros horn, especially if it has a pointed tip. The process is relatively simple, it is pierced with a standard needle and a curved bar. However, the cartilage at the tip of the nose is much more complex, so position and technique must be perfect to avoid unnecessary damage and trauma. This piercing has a long history in some African and South American tribal cultures but has only recently begun to appear in the West. a piercing that goes straight through the tip of the nose; however, unlike a nasallang, it does not penetrate the nostril or septum. Often the jewelry worn is a barbell. The name comes from the first person to have this piercing done by Patrick Bartholomew, a piercer from London. Visually, it can look very similar to a mantis piercing.

Bridge piercing

Bridge piercings are surface piercings that only puncture tissue instead of cartilage or bone. They are placed close to the eyes and go across the skin high up the nose bridge.

This is a hefty surface piercing that sits on the bridge of the nose between the eyes. Because it is a skin piercing, there may be an increased risk of infection, migration, and rejection. As such, you must watch it closely while it heals. While it looks amazing, there are a few things to keep in mind whether you wear glasses or not. If you use them, you should make sure the placement is such that you can continue to use them. You should also be careful not to hang the piercing in your glasses or clothes.

The curved barbells are usually for bridge piercings.

Austin Piercing

It located at the tip of the nose, parallel to the nasallang piercing, but is much more short than the nasallang piercing. It in the surface of the nose tip, so the pain is somewhat slight. Its name comes from the first person to have worn it.

The jewelry most commonly used for this type of piercing is a barbell.

Third Eye Piercing

The third eye piercing is just like its name, it is in the middle of the eyes, seems that you have one more eye.

It perpendicular to the bridge piercing, on the top of the rhino piercing, it is a surface nose piercing, so the pain is slightly.

Curved barbells are often used for third eye piercings.
